Hotel Review: Les Roches Rouges, St. Raphael, South of France

Les Roches Rouges, a 5 Star Hotel in the French Riviera *****

90 Bd de la 36ème division du Texas,
83700 Saint-Raphaël, France

Tel : +33 (0)4 89 81 40 78

When I was approached by a 5 star hotel in the French Riviera for a ‘collab,’ as Amanda from AmandaLand would say, I said ‘yes’ before they could finish the word ‘collaboration.’ Les Roches Rouges has been one of my favourite hotels in the South of France and I had already placed it into my Top 10 Best Hotels in the South of France, so I couldn’t think of a better hotel to work with.

Seaviews. NHYM 2026

About an hour’s drive from Nice Airport, Les Roches Rouges is a five star seafront hotel by the Beaumier French hospitality group. It used to be another hotel called Sole Mar built in the 50s, but was taken over and renovated into a trendy, retro 50/60s chic hotel. The vibe here is ‘luxe chic et decontractee,’ which means chic and laid back luxury, so for those looking for the bling of Cannes or party life in St Tropez, this isn’t it. Here, it is about disconnecting (no TVs in the rooms! Gasp!), pared back decor, neutral colours (think white rooms, with splashes of blue), and a stunning salt-water rock pool that really blends into the Mediterranean sea in the backgroud.

New building added in 2025

Location, Location, Location

What makes this hotel special is really its location: it is half-way between Nice and St.Tropez in St Raphael (which most people have never heard of) in Le Massif de L’esterel. Here, there are red volcanic stone, which gave the hotel its name. And all around the hotel are jutting sea rock formations, which take you back to a neolithic age and create sea pools around it, bringing you closer to nature. There isn’t that much around St Raphael in terms of shopping/partying/eating, but that’s really the point. Those who come here want a relaxing escape, away from the crowds of Cannes, Nice and St. Trop.

L’Ile D’Or. NHYM 2026

On the left side of the hotels lies L’Ile D’or, which inspired Tintin’s Black Island. It’s definitely worth a kayak or paddle to it.

ROOMS

Room view. NHYM 2026

One of my favourite sounds in the world is of waves crashing against rocks in the morning to wake me up (and no, meditation crashing waves apps don’t count). Here, most of the rooms are sea – facing and only a few meters away from the sea, therefore the sounds of the waves lullaby you to sleep and wake you up in the morning. Those sounds instantly take you away from the over-stimulated lives we all live in at the moment.

Deluxe Seaview Room. NHYM 2026

I stayed in a Deluxe room, which had perfect seaviews and was a good size, with a small shower and two sinks (an absolute must in 5 star hotels). You could argue that the rooms are on the bare side, but I think it’s to highlight the views rather than the decor and I like this minimalist decor personally, it really does soothe the mind. I also really like the small details like the bracelet key and the plongeon notepad. The ‘no TV’ was going to be hard for me, but it showed how addicted I am to Netflix and streaming and forced me to be screen free for a few days. There was an entire new building added to the hotel last year (2025), which added 25 rooms, and this year a 2 bedroom suite took over the Michelin star restaurant.

DECOR

The hotel clearly prides itself on using just white and natural materials. The outside of the hotel is painted white, as are all the rooms, and all the materials used are natural: stone, bamboo, wood, earthenware, rattan and cotton cloth. The library is the perfect example of this interior design aesthetics and I think the idea is that it allows you to focus on the scenery.

The small library. NHYM 2026

Visually, the hotel is beautiful because of its location and everywhere you look is aesthetically pleasing. I understand why all Instagrammers want to photograph it: it lends itself to gorgeous photographs. I can’t help but take 100 photos of exactly the same thing, I want these to stay in my memory for as long as possible.

THE POOL

The pool deserves a special section all to itself: it is built into the rocks and feels like an extension of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s Instagram beautiful and has IG influencers all clamouring to take its picture (FashionBugBlog is a fan!) and it reminds me of Slim Arons photographs, which happen to be some of my favourite photographs of all time. This is my kind of ‘Wild Swimming:’ with algae, crabs, shells, seashells all co-habitating as you swim, hiding in the crevices of the rocks. For those looking for a pristine pool, go to Eden Roc. Here, you will find one of the most unique pools on the Cote D’azur and the rocks surrounding it makes it all the more unique and take center stage.

FOOD

The main restaurant is L’Estelo where breakfast is served as well as dinner. The breakfast is good and has everything you expect from a good buffet: pastries, fresh fruit juice, eggs on order, fruits and sides and freshly pressed apple juice. My poached eggs were perfectly made.

Breakfast Spread. NHYM 2026

For lunch, La Chicoula serves all your typical hotel mains: ceviche, caesar salad, burgers and truffle pizza. You can’t ask for much more. The lunch restaurant is set back in the beautiful gardens but of course you can have it by the pool, which I opted for.

Table at La Chicoula. NHYM 2026

Dinner is at L’Estelo, which is where breakfast is served, and serves Provencal food, like seabass with bouillabaisse sauce, which was very good. For dessert I had the deconstructed peach melba was also light, fresh and very good.

CROWD

The crowd is very much couples and some friends vacationing together. It was September when I came, so kids were back in school and all the younger and older couples were here for less crowds, lower prices and temperatures. They are a mixture of fashionable French, Europeans (Brits, Scandis and lots of Dutch) and Americans. An American media acquaintance who lives in Brooklyn loves to come here and calls it a ‘hidden gem’ but if Brooklyn knows about it, I’m not sure it can be called hidden anymore. It is a gem though, and appeals to a design-led, trendy crowd. It is the anti-thesis of Cannes in the height of summer, where ‘the blinger the better’ is the mot-cle.

Incredible rock formations, justting out into the sea. NHYM 2026

The rock formations around the hotel really are the stars of the show for me – the water spraying and splashing against them is endlessly captivating. You could mistake them for rocks in Sardinia or the Seychelles, but here they are, just a stone’s throw away (pun intended) from the hustle and bustle of the Cote D’Azur.

Bienvenue aux Roches Rouges! NHYM 2026

SERVICE:

Before I even arrived, I received a Whatsapp message from the hotel, which these days is really an added plus: it gives you instant connection to the hotel without waiting around. Gone are the days when you have to wait hours to check – in or at the front desk for a simple request. The WhatsApp communication for me is a big plus and goes a long way. There is also a QR code at the pool to order lunch, which works better than having to flag down an overworked waiter or waitress.

The staff is young, laid back and eager to please. The front desk particularly was very efficient and friendly. The pool and restaurant service is more along the lines of the ‘decontractee’ style; there are no GMs in suits wandering around like some stuffier 5 star hotels, so you won’t find that here, but this is part of the charm. This is a younger, hipper staff who works on the Cote d’Azur in the summers and Courchevel in the winters.

ACTIVITIES:

Activities here follow the hotel’s goal: focus on the present and your wellbeing. It’s yoga and meditation classes in the morning, hiking, a fitness studio, spa (it has 3 massage rooms), kayaks and paddle boards, swimming, boating and most importantly, lounging by the pool and reading, which is how I spent my days. If you are looking to do more, there are also local activities around but I stayed at the hotel the whole time and it felt as if the longer you are there, the slower life goes by, each minute slower than the last.

Catamaran Cruise

Boat Cruise

OVERALL:

Les Roches Rouges is an ode to a time gone by: it is the opposite of the material excess along some parts of the Cote D’Azur and aims to return to times of simplicity. It embraces a ‘less is more’ approach in its design and decor aesthetics but still manages to have character and originality (unlike many sterile resorts I am not a huge fan of). It is perfect for those looking for time closer to nature, where the sounds of lapping waves are more appealing than EDM music, where excess luxury is toned down, grounded, and ‘down to earth’ themes apply everywhere.

So, for those looking for a break from city-life and information overload, Les Roches Rouges is the perfect fix.

Thank you so much Les Roches Rouges for having me!

Top 10 Best Luxury Hotels Ibiza: 10 Best Hotels, Villas and Agroturismos in Ibiza, Spain

If like me, you have had a dreadful January, you are not alone: everyone I have spoken to has had a pretty miserable January. The last few weeks have been dreary and depressing: it’s been dark, cold, and very, very wet but beyond that, we’ve recently witnessed two mass shootings (a friend’s son was stuck at Brown University during the shooting and other friends were on Bondi beach right before the shooting), then the fire in the nightclub in Crans Montana was shocking, with friends of friends who lost their child, but also because my kids are the age where they could have been there (and then the fire at the Roof Gardens a few nights ago, but thank god no one was hurt). The two shootings in the US left me horrified and speechless: people in the US are scared and do not feel safe. And let’s not mention Greenland. It all feels way too close to home, and right now it feels like we live in a twilight zone. So when I write my travel posts, it’s not because I ignore what’s going on in the world, but it is a way of using memories to dream of happier times. First up, Ibiza.

All Photos Copyright NHYM 2026

A few months ago, someone asked me to write a post about where to stay in Ibiza, particularly agroturismos, after I had been to a 50th birthday party and stayed at Atzaro. He had never heard of it- and agroturismos – before last year. What a lot of people don’t necessarily know about Ibiza is that it is multi-faceted; there is the trashy San Antonio crowd, the party drug-fuelled crowd, overlapped with the club people and the hippy crowd that came in the 70s. Then, finally, there are the inbetweeners, who love the clear waters of Formentera, the laid back vibe of the island, with a stop at Pacha once in a while, like me and my friends. I have been going to Ibiza for 30 years, the first time when I was 18 yo going to foam parties at Amnesia and going to the VIP section of Pacha to listen to David Guetta. I remember those days going to sleep at 10pm and waking up at 3am to go to clubs when they opened. Then, I discovered Formentera and Juan y Andrea in my 20s, when a friend of a friend literally bought a Sunseeker overnight and we spent endless days on the boat, mostly spending our time in Formentera. Then came the kids, and we rented gorgeous villas around the island with other friends with kids. Needless to say, I have wonderful memories of the island through the decades.

NHYM 2026

So, when a good friend invited me to her 50th birthday party last May, there was no way I was going to miss it. I had always wanted to stay at Atzaro, but somehow it never happened. Atzaro is one of the original luxury Agroturismos, in a part of the island that is still mostly undeveloped, which is Ibiza before Ibiza became Ibiza. Agroturismos are working farms that offer accommodation and dining to visitors and the spectrum runs from rural farms to very nice luxury hotels, which Atzaro is a prime example. They are very popular in Spain and Italy, especially in Ibiza, and shows an authentic side of Ibiza.

Atzaro is a thirteen hectare estate with beautiful bougainvillea covered buildings and terraces, ponds, gardens, restaurants, pavillions, orange groves and a vegetable garden. It was born from a 300 year old finca, and has been turned into one of the best hotels in Ibiza.

The interiors are typical finca style with terracotta tiles, littered with white fresh cotton sofas, wood materials, and low wood ceilings to keep the interiors cool in summer.

The pavillions are covered with climbing flowers and plants and inside are stylish rooms with teak four poster beds, and outside are private terraces and pools. The style of the hotel is understated yet luxurious, and has all the mod cons you can think of and every detail is thought of. Even their hotel shop has original Ibizan pieces that I couldn’t resist.

The outdoor restaurant is situated under grape vines and for breakfast is as magical as it could be.

Bougainvillea overflowing on the terraces.

The 43 meter freshwater Pool in the Spa.

There are day memberships available for guests staying outside the hotel, so my preference was the hotel pool, which is exclusive to hotel guests and has more privacy.

Spa with Balinese architecture surrounded by ponds, filled with singing frogs.

The gardens are wonderful for a wander and to get back to nature.

The event space is beautiful and if I were a die-hard Ibiza fan, this is where I would find any excuse to throw a party: wedding, anniversary, or a 30/40/50th birthday party. Or maybe I can renew my wedding vows like Brooklyn and Nicola.

My friend’s 50th birthday party was equally beautiful at another Agroturismo, Can Curreu, where the speeches were tear inducing, both from their sentimentality as well as from laughter. It was a wonderful weekend surrounded by old friends and new friends, and we danced and partied like we were 18 years old. More wonderful memories to add to my Ibiza Memory Box.

There are now so many accommodation options in Ibiza that it’s hard to know what to choose from, but here are my and my friends’ favourite places to stay in Ibiza:

  1. Six Senses: The Six Senses landed in Ibiza a few years ago, and it is in a beautiful spot with gorgeous views and an amazing spa. Here it’s all about wellness, healthy living, Mediterranean food, and a superb spa. Perfect for a wellness break. The service can be hit or miss, but I would happily go with a few girlfriends for a weekend away.
  2. Nobu Hotel : For a more modern hotel, Nobu Ibiza is the one to go for. Clean white lines and sea views make this one an easy pick.
  3. Villas: Mi Casa Su Casa: I love all their villas, rustic chic and luxurious, but the one we rented was one of the most beautiful villas in Ibiza with an Olympic sized pool (well, almost) and a breathtaking sea view.
  4. Petunia Ibiza: A Beaumier property and sister hotel to Les Roches Rouges in France, it’s a beautiful boutique hotel near Es Vedra.
  5. Es Cucons: This rural, rustic chic hotel is inland and away from the crazy Ibiza nightlife. So if you want peace and quiet and nature, this one is great. I stayed years ago, and it’s still as good as it was 20 years ago.
  6. Can Curreu: This is where the 50th birthday was, so although I have never stayed there, my friends loved it enough to host a party there and most of their guests stayed here. And it comes with very reasonable prices.
  7. Can Jaume: Another lovely Agroturismo rural hotel, with orange groves and farmlands, it’s still close to Ibiza town, but with a slower paced Ibiza life.
  8. Dynamic Lives Villas: Friends of friends who go to Ibiza every summer rent villas from this villa rental company. It specialises in villas in Mallorca, Ibiza and Mykonos and they highly recommend it.
  9. Les Terrasses Agroturismo: Another Agroturismo, which like it names says, is full of terraces, and is a family friendly, intimate hotel that friends return to year after year. They have a lovely restaurant in their garden, and you’d never guess you were in Ibiza.
  10. Soho Farmhouse and Mondrian Ibiza are new openings in Ibiza. I haven’t been yet, so let me know what they’re like!

The White Lotus Effect: Top 10 Best Luxury Hotels in the South of France

BOOK YOUR TRAVEL TO THE SOUTH OF FRANCE WITH EXPEDIA.CO.UK

It’s official! The White Lotus Season 4 is coming to France! So, if you’re like me and you are both a White Lotus fan and a South of France fan, we are all hoping it will be in the South of France!

The French Riviera is experiencing a full on revival post-pandemic with a slew of luxurious 5 star hotel and restaurant openings; many hotels have had facelifts and new restaurant openings have us salivating… Zuma and La Petite Maison in Cannes are putting it firmly on the map of jet-setters and Luigi’s, Bella and Salama brings a younger, more party vibe to Cannes. Hotels are upping their game to compete with Ibiza, Mykonos and Sardinia, and I have to admit, they are succeeding. Now that we know Season 4 of the White Lotus is taking place in France, I am obviously hoping it will be in the South of France. Here are my 10 Top ultra luxurious hotels in the South of France:

Provided by Bing Places for Business

1. Hotel du Cap Eden Roc:

Best for: the ultimate, once-in-a-lifetime luxurious hotel and to rub shoulders with superstars.

The Grande Dame of all the hotels in the South of France, none can really compare with the Hotel du Cap, Eden Roc. Always a favourite for celebs during the Cannes Film Festival and loved by Americans, this stalwart has never lost its appeal but now has added a lovely new restaurant to keep up with the times: Giovanni’s is a charming Italian under a pergola with a perfect Mediterranean backdrop, exclusively for guests

2. Chateau de La Messardiere:

Best for: The ultimate luxury family holiday in Saint Tropez

Chateau de La Messardiere has definitely upped its game with its recent multi-million pound renovation making it an impossible-to-book hotel in St Tropez right now. It gets so many things right, it’s hard to find any faults. The lunch buffet is positively extravagant and delicious, the new kids club has its own bastide and private pool, and the hotel’s private beach club, Jardin Tropezina, is one of my favourites (the shuttle service is priceless). And let’s not forget Matsuhisa, the Japanese restaurant, has one of the best views in St Tropez. If you can afford it, it’s so good, you’ll never need to leave. It will soon become your kids’ favourite hotel too, and yours as well.

3. The Maybourne Riviera:

Best For: Modern design for architecture aficionados

This hotel’s vertiginous views over Monaco are as stunning as the hotel itself; its clean, sleek, modern lines are for those who love a design hotel, but with top hospitality service to match it (it is part of the same hotel group as the Dorchester and the Berkeley). It is literally build in the rocks over Monaco and is an architectural masterpiece. It has quickly climbed the ranks as one of the top hotels in France.

4. Lily of the Valley:

Best for: Wellness holiday without starving

This new(ish) hotel designed by Philip Stark is not only aesthetically beautiful on a gorgeous spot along the coast, it also offers a weekly schedule of wellness activities from yoga, to hikes, to bike rides. Not only that, but you don’t need to starve and can eat a real steak for dinner! The bar next to the restaurant is one of the highlights with roaming musicians who will sing whatever song you ask them. Perfect for a couple’s weekend wellness retreat.

5. Chateau Chevre d’Or:

Best for: Romance

This boutique hotel in Eze remains one of my all time favourites with the best views of the Cote d’Azur. The terrace lunch is divine, so even if you can’t stay, it’s worth the detour. The best place for young and old love. The winding medieval streets of Eze just adds to the romance; a perfect place for an engagement or honeymoon.

6. Hotel du Couvent:

Best for: Historical hotel with minimalist interiors

Only just opened in 2024, it has started making Nice cool again. It is a beautiful hotel in an old convent with its own bakery and daily bread, a welcoming terrace to while the nights and days away. The decor is are bare and peaceful, it was a convent after all, but somehow manages to stay warm and inviting. The outdoor terrace in the courtyard is fantastic for a pre-dinner drink, and its private terraced swimming pools feels like Nice’s best kept secret. One to check out if in Nice!

7. Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel:

Best For: Four Seasons Service

This is where the White Lotus Season 4 will likely take place, and I can assure you that the people-watching is better than the show. The management was taken over by the Four Seasons about 10 years ago, to match the sophistication of the hotel guests. Like all Four Seasons, it opened a fab kids club and offers swimming lessons in its pool. Great for families wanting a base in the South of France with all the Four Season trappings. I can’t wait for it to feature in The White Lotus Season 4!

8. Les Roches Rouges:

For a boutique hotel experience with much more reasonable prices than the above properties, Les Roches Rouges opened a few years ago. It already has a Michelin star restaurant and a very cool pool dug into the rocks. It’s young and trendy against the Grandes Dames hotels above. For the design, cool crowd in media, the arts and tech. This year, they have added brand new rooms designed by ASL Architects.

9. Hotel Belle Plage, Cannes:

Best for: A young, trendy vibe in Cannes without breaking the bank.

This new, well designed hotel in Cannes is a winner with its sea views, great spa, a rooftop restaurant by Eyal Shani and rooms designed by Raphael Navot. Bella, the rooftop restaurant, has a delicious Mediterranean menu with fresh fish and meats on the menu. With reasonable prices, it is a great choice for a style conscious crowd in Cannes.

Regent Hotels & Resorts

InterContinental Carlton Cannes, in Cannes (French Riviera), 5 stars ...

10. The Carlton, A Regent Hotel, Cannes

Best for: The ultimate Cannes Experience

For one of the oldest ‘Grande Dame’ hotels in the South of France, the Carton Cannes still reigns supreme. Just recently given a two year facelift, it still attracts the rich and famous during the Cannes Film Festival and houses all the top supremos during all the conference weeks in Cannes. A word of advice: don’t go in August, but at any other time of year, try it out. It oozes history with Obama and Hitchcock connections and its inner courtyard is a secret garden to give you a break from the busy Croisette.

BOOK THE CARLTON, CANNES HERE

This list was very difficult to compile with plenty of charming, updated hotels and new openings like Le Chateau de Theoule, the Mondrian in Cannes, Le Mas de Candille, Anantara Plaza Nice, and La Reserve de Ramatuelle, but these top 10 are ones that bring something slightly different to the others along the coast and are changing the face of the French Riviera.

What are you waiting for? Go and enjoy before The White Lotus fans take over!
